Sayonara, SubStack
An update
Hi everyone -
This is an update post as well as my last post on SubStack.
Over the course of this year, I’ve been incredibly busy growing and developing Kizuna in new directions as well as working on my own writing projects.
Part of Kizuna’s evolution as well as my own has meant pulling off social media.
While I may have a few profiles left up mainly to ensure account names are not co-opted by someone else, I am completely off socials and have been for most of this year.
There are many, many reasons for this…most of which are obvious, I think, especially given what I’ve been working on.
The important thing to share with all of you is that I’m focused on grounding my work and myself off algorithmic platforms.
I’d also made the decision to leave SubStack months ago, but needed time to setup infrastructure and other things so that I could do so.
Moving forward, the best way to stay updated with either me or Kizuna will be via blog and newsletter.
KIZUNA
As the new site makes clear, Kizuna has grown in ways that I have long been dreaming of and I am so very proud of and grateful for everyone who has been a part of its realization into this next stage.
I believe deeply in the impact and vision of our work and its critical necessity not only for this current moment in time, but for the future to come.
Kizuna has grown beyond me so its mailings do not feature me or my writings.
Dispatches (the newsletter) is informative, infrequent, and provides notifications on Pathways, Editions, Rhythms, and updates on the House. Each Dispatch is representative of our particular philosophical approach.
I do hope many of you will continue to join us there especially through our open access and public work, including upcoming Reading Exhibitions, or Open Editions in our Reading Room among other initiatives.
Grace Aimoto
This is my new personal site which essentially functions as my creative studio. All of my writings - including blog posts several times a week, essays, and fiction - will be housed here.
For those who’d like to remain connected to my writings, ideas, and general musings, this is the place for all of that.
Now for the technical part:
To make things easier, I will be importing everyone who is a subscriber here to both sites so you can continue receiving emails from Kizuna and me.
HOWEVER -
When the first emails from those sites go out sometime tomorrow (Monday), they’ll each contain a very clear unsubscribe link.
If you don’t want to receive anything else in your inbox and do not want to receive emails from one or the other (or both), please, please go ahead and unsubscribe.
My feelings won’t be hurt, I promise.
I really want emails to go out only to those who do want to stay updated.
You’ll also be able to adjust your preferences for my site and choose what types of emails you’d like to receive (e.g. frequent blog posts, the occasional long form essay, or only when I have news or an announcement).
That being said, there is always some kind of technical hiccup when doing these types of shifts so:
My apologies in advance if you happen to receive a random email tomorrow that seems totally out of place. It means something happened during the transfer process - please simply disregard it.
Sometimes, emails inadvertently get lost in the process. If you don’t receive an email from either Kizuna or me tomorrow, it was not on purpose.
It means something happened during the transfer and your email may’ve accidentally been dropped. If you still would like to continue receiving them, just sign up again on the corresponding website.
I have retired and unpublished all my previous essays here on Substack but will keep this post up to redirect people should they happen to land on it.
Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way:
There is so much happening right now and huge numbers of people are experiencing a great deal of pain and hardship.
If you are going through this, I’m thinking of you and hope that wherever you are, you know that you’re not alone.
Taking care of one another is how we move forward.
